Battery to ignite a flame

by Johnny
(Canada)

You take 2 "D" batteries and open (they can be dead or still good) then take out the carbon rods be carful not to break them! Take a "9 volt" and take each of the carbon rods and put one rod in the + and one in the - then touch both the rods together. It creates an arch.

Have dry tinder and touch the "arch" and blow gently this will ignite a flame! Trust me on this, it does work!

Make sure you have the basic wilderness skills to safely enjoy your trip.

Battery and Steel Wool Fire Starter
by: Oldskool

A 9v battery and a clump of steel wool makes a great fire. Pull the wool to thin strands and twist the ends. Hold the two ends on each battery terminal until the strands in the middle glow red hot under your tinder. A gentle airflow will catch a flame with little effort.

You can even make it easier if you have a battery and two cables. Connect the cables to the + and the – . Then touch the cable ends together. There you have your arch.

I guess some people don't think this is wilderness survival tip. Well, you never know...
