not bad

If you're skilled enough for that stuff you could stay out for a long while, but instead of a .22 rifle, why not try a small assortment of fishing lures and line? Its lighter and more often than not you will find water, and in that water you could easily find fish. Other than that I like that pack, sounds light and as long as the first aid kit is decent you should be fine.

A Good Start
by: Jim

Looks ok, you've got the basics covered - first aid, shelter, signaling, fire, water and food (as long as you're in an area that has fish/game and you're not immobilized due to injury or weather).

A little short on the details (how much of what size/type of rope, is the first aid kit more than a Band-Aid and aspirin?) but a good survival kit is highly subjective anyway. It depends a lot on where it's going to be used, the skill/experience level of the user, and how long it's intended to sustain them for. I'd consider this a weekend kit.

Redundancy
by: Anonymous

Thinking about what trappers and scouts use to carry in the wilderness, not a bad list. Plenty of redundancy built in. Assumable you have bullets for the 22, but I still would not throw it to the wind without bullets, many uses, splint, weapon, depending on model. And multitools are overkill and I prefer a swiss knife for comfort. I've carried the champion for years. Smaller and lighter than my Gerber. Air horn can probably be disassembled to make a whistle using one of the knifes or axe or saw. Tin can probably be polished for a mirror if needed. Clearly, it would be a list for someone who knows how to use each piece to it's advantage. Unbraiding the rope if needed. Good list! And yeah, 14 items, maybe more. Hehe

Best ever?
by: Anonymous

Hmmm, I dunno. You might want to have some ammo for that .22. A swiss army knife? That's so 80's, man. Get a multitool.

And an air horn? How about a whistle or signal mirror or something that doesn't have a limited supply of compressed air.
