Can you detail how to do this. you need to stop at the cambium layer correct? THen what, should the tap you put in be at an upward angle? I was also told if it goes into the wood it will not drain water? is this correct?

Ty for the excellent post. Its good to know.
We dont have many birch here naturally, only the occasional one planted in someones yard as an ornamental.
We dont have many true maples either however we do have a lot of Vine Maples which we can tap for a syrup. Have to boil it a lot longer though because it is a lot more watery than the regular maple.
