CD as a signal mirror

by David Kverek

An old CD makes an inexpensive, lightweight and useful signal mirror. It even has a hole in the middle to aide in pointing the reflection of the sun. It is kind of large but it fits nicely on the inside wall of a day pack. Even if it cracks or breaks it can still be used effectively.

CD makes bad mirror
by: Joe

A CD makes a terrible signal mirror. They are only 20% as reflective as a mid quality signal mirror and become almost useless if broken. If they get wet the backing peels off and it again becomes useless. If that is all you have then use it but it would be foolish to plan to be placed at such a disadvantage.
