I too have heard of the smell of burning wood keeping ants and other insects at bay. However, i feel that starting any type of fire in the woods that is not contained in a pit is only asking for problems. We see and hear of camp fires destroying thousands of acres each year here in Colorado as well as California and other areas of the world. I have used the cold ash ( COOLED DOWN OF COURSE ) and sprinkled it around my bed area.I know ants and other insects have issues with CINNOMON and BALCK PEPPER too. The ash I think is better since who wants to carry a ton of that around in a pack. Try the ash idea I think you will find it to be safer.
