Fire with a flashlight

A lot of people know you can use the bulb and that is all I ever see on these pages. But you don't have to waste the bulb or the batteries.

Just pull out the reflective cone part, take your tinder and stick it in the hole from the bottom side.

Direct the beam like you would with a magnifying glass, and if its nice and sunny you should get smoke pretty quick.

Let smoke for a minute or so so you get a good cherry on your tinder.

If done well enough your tinder will actually start on fire, not just an ember. The down side is you need the sun. I have done this dozens of times and it works great.

Make sure you have the basic wilderness skills to safely enjoy your trip.
