I don't go out in to the wilderness with out my Ka-Bar, it keeps an edge like no other knife I've had, it is weighted nicely, has a good grip and it isn't to expensive

My favorite fixed blade knife
by: Tyler

I have several fixed blade knives, but my absolute is the 1218 Marine Ka-Bar. This has a 7" partially serrated full tang blade. The blade stays nice and sharp, and it hacks through branches like butter.

The handle is grooved, so its nearly impossible for your hand to slip, and if your hand does slip (not likely) theres a guard on both sides to keep your hand from the blade.

This knife can handle practically anything you throw at it. I've used this blade on every back packing trip i've ever been on, and for the first 6 months of having this Ka-Bar I traveled close to 300 miles, and only had to sharpen it once that entire time. If you want a nice sturdy knife that will treat you well, i'd suggest any Ka-Bar.

additional gear i carry now
by: steve h

along with the kabar i now never go anywhere without a leatherman wave multitool, or its big brother the leatherman surge. if you cant do what ya need done with either of these. then the kabar will. what an impressive tool these leathermans are. in contrast the gerber hasnt held up as well, so i will call it a gentlemans tool. leatherman takes a real beating and still functions well.

My companion
by: Steve H

I first got this kabar while in the marine corps in south east Asia, you can imagine the tales from that part of the world. Since then, it has been my companion when i cut fire wood, hike, hunted. Still looks good for its age, guess I'll keep it ha ha. I've had this knife since 1968. Doesn't bother me that you have to add a little oil to the blade occasionally.

Always will have
by: Steve

Ever since 1968-69 i spent some time on vacation with the marines overseas, and had as my constant companion the kabar knife. Used it for everything from soup to shelter building, still, got a kabar, always will have
