My second favorite Survival Knife

by Brandon
(Davenport, Iowa)

My second favorite Survival Knife would have to be a Kukri, made famous by the Gurkha's. It is long and curved full tang made from leaf spring steel (shock absorber metal often used in Mercedes-Benz). They are usually about 12-14 inches long looks like a boomerang almost.

They have the durability to chop through cement re-bar and then some. They have a pretty flat handle at the bottom for pounding stuff, and grooves in the handle.

Often comes with two smaller knives for eating which are included in this photo.

Great knife!

In the jungle I think, I prefer the longer machete. Something like 14-18" long.

The Gurkha's or the Gurkha army had specifically designated a few people that were to protect the royalty. They were armed with a side arm and a kukri. They were the army for india and nepal around those areas. One link below is for the Kukri and the other is for the Gurkha's.

To read more about the Kukri you can go to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kukri

and for the Gurkha's you can go to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gurkha
