Your ability to remain calm and not to panic is your most important outdoor survival skill... and probably the best outdoor survival tip you can get.

To deal with an emergency situation you must be able to make decisions and improvise.

Do not panic

Panic is your major enemy and will harm you. Fear and panic reduce your ability to make smart decisions. If you panicking yourself you will get the thought in your head that you can't take care of yourself, that you need help and that you are lost.


Survivor challenge

If you entered the wilderness in full gear then you have a tent, and a sleeping bag, as well as a supply of food and water. The real problem is if you have become separated from your gear. Now the four basic needs become a survivor challenge and you need to evaluate your situation.
