Predict bad weather

by K.E DeBruhl

Moon ring

Moon ring

When traveling in the wilderness and preparing for bad weather, look to see if a ring is around the moon. If so, bad weather will come in 24 hours. If the ring has a break in it, that is the direction it will come from.

72 instead of 24 hours
by: Denis

I have used this for more than a decade and it has been correct 100 percent of the time. However I want to say in the next 72 hours instead of 24 hours.

Folk rhyme
by: Anonymous

Yes, it is sometimes possible to see just this.
There is even a folk rhyme about it-- When there is a ring around the moon, rain or snow is coming soon.

Moon ring
by: Jess

The ring around the Moon is caused by the refraction of sunlight (or moonlight) from ice crystals in the upper atmosphere. The ice crystals signify high-altitude, thin cirrus clouds that normally comes before a warm front by one to two days. Typically, a warm front will be associated with a low-pressure system. In a low-pressure area, weather is generally cloudy and winds typically strong.
