Quick clean water

If you are in desperate need of water, or can't boil your water you can find a river. Rivers that flow slowly are usually filled with animal feces and bacteria that can give you nasty diarhea. I learned this from the show man vs wild.

You can dig a trench about 6 in to 1 ft away from the river bank.

Try to make it a bit higher than the water. Dig a hole until it is below water level. The dirt and rocks will filter the water of some nasty bacteria as it passes through.

The water in the hole you made is fine to drink. Use this only if you have to.

Boiling to clean
by: Emily

If you have a empty plastic bottel all you have to do is 1.fill bottel half way with any water .2.Make a small fire .3.place bottel above fire so it only touches the water so the bottel will not melt and let boil . fresh clean water in minits .

Re: take bear with a grain of salt

Urinating in the canteen and drinking it is completely safe. Urine does not contain toxins and is sterile. It changes daily to produce antibodies etc that you need for that day and is well known to long range patrol groups and special forces. The Ayurvedic people of India are expert at using urine as a therapy. Westerners tend to believe that if it doesn't come out of a bottle or tube it is toxic. The truth is that most of the poisons we ingest come from bottles and tubes and are called medicines.

I am ex military and am now a natural healer and can vouch for it. It is not just a theory and it could save your life in an emergency. Might be worth your while googling up urine therapy and Ayurvedic medicine.

Zip lock water clarifier and purifier.
by: Anonymous

take a zp lock bag, put a litle clean piece of plastic or few rocks for air spaces in the to the bag and put a few tiny pin pricks in it to just cause the the water to oooze slowly into the the clean bag. zip it up and place the punctures in the water. the smaller the holes the clearer the water. pour the clear water in a good new zip lock bag and put it in the sun ziped air tight. or just let it sit for a while for the bugs to starve and or sufficate. It's not the best but better than strait from the stream. if enough sun will pasturise and iradiate the water for safer, the sand filter isn't a bad idea to further filter. don't durty the clean inside, wipe off the dirty outside.

Take Bear with a grain of salt

I wouldn't take Man V Wild as the gospel truth. He gives pretty bad advise sometimes. Examples would include urinatining into your canteen and drinking it, urine's too salty to drink and full of toxins that your body's trying to get rid of, and climbing a tall tree to get the lay of the land, then if you fall and injure yourself there's no one around to help or protect you.

Saw The Show This weekend
by: anonymouse

Hey, I just saw this episode on man vs wild, it had a lot of good and interesting things to do with survival.I found it very interesting to watch Bear Grylls dig out the water trench and instead of trying to collect the water in a container he just pushed his face right in the hole and started to drink.
I tell ya I would hate to be in his shoes, he eats a lot of exotic stuff and drinks the foulest liquids. He must have one expensive stomach liner.
