Signal mirror

A suggestion for Signaling for Help. A CD or DVD make a great signal mirror. I put one in my backpack and camping gear. Remember when AOL would send out free ones I just recycled them to my equipment.

A friend of mine took an old hard drive apart the other day and inside were two mirror polished aluminum disks. They were about the same size and weight as a compact disk. They have a hole in the center to help aim it also. And they would blind you.

if your kit is a tin then the lid of the tin is your signal mirror

Be aware of that a CD is not as effective as a plastic signal mirror and definitely not if you compare it against higher quality mirrors. Yes, it is free but I would not recommend a CD as your primary survival-signaling device
