Tampon as tinder

by Teresa Sidney

ATV's or skidoo'ers should carry a tampon in their kit. When you break down and need a fire, it is great to have that tampon!

Put the tampon in your gas tank and hold onto the string. Remove tampon from the gas tank when it has been saturated with gas, then gather some wood and use the tampon soaked in gas to light your fire.

Voila starts fire right away.

Make sure you have the basic wilderness skills to safely enjoy your trip.

DANGER!
by: Anonymous

Nothing personal here, I just don't want anyone injured.
Gasoline in all its forms, white gas, lantern fuel, etc. is always extremely dangerous. It will "burst into flame", much bigger flame than you ever expected, long before your match or ingiter even gets close to the fuel soaked area.
Consider the danger, and in a survival situation you may be desparate for a fire, but then if burned there won't be any medical care available, making your situation even more desparate.
If one must resort to gasoline, a much smaller amount, a few drops, will suffice. A tampon soaked in gasoline is enough "explosive" to qualify for a Molotov cocktail.
