SOG makes high quality, tough knives that can hold an edge very well, and are easy to sharpen. Perfect for chopping or getting firewood.

I accidentally struck a rock as hard as possible while cutting through a bush, my blade was still razor sharp and with no scratches or dings. It has a very sturdy, metal based handle, with finger grooves.

Ka-bar makes an excellent cutting or utility knife, very sharp but dulls faster. Great handle on it as well.

Cold steel's San Mai Trailmaster is the same thing too. Great point and cutting edge on it.
