Ka-bar knife

Ka-bar knife

Ka-bar knife

I've been using a 5" tanto tipped non-serrated (though I wish it was) ka-bar for around a year now for hiking and survival practices. The grip is non-slipping and fits the hand well. The blade can be honed for a razor edge (careful, if the edge gets wet it will rust).

Also very important is the sheath, the one that came with mine is by far the best one i have. It has three locks to keep the knife restrained. It is capable of horizontal carry (more out of the way).

Also i always carry a Leatherman Juice S2 in my pocket. It is a fine little multi-tool that can take a beating.

Prepare to be a wilderness survivor.

My favorite knife as well
by: Mike

The one knife I have used the most over the years is a Kabar fixed blade. It's marketed as a "fighting" knife, but is much more than that. It has a 5" blade with either a spear point or a tanto point.

I prefer the tanto point, but the spear point is easier to sharpen. I have used and ABUSED this knife for years, all over the US and Canada on fishing, canoe, and artifact hunting trips. It has taken everything I can do to it. The blade holds an edge very well although you do have to keep a light coat of lube on it because it is high carbon, not stainless steel. The handle material is called Kraton G. it has not dried out or cracked, and does not get slippery when wet.

After almost seventy years, this kabar design has withstood the test of time. This was the best $35.00 i have spent in the last five years!
